First week of school

Well, school came WAY too early this year, but we made it through the first week. Zane and Millie are at Mary Castle Elementary this year. Our district adopted a magnet program for the elementary schools this year and because our neighborhood school boundaries changed, we are actually NOT going to our neighborhood school even though it's where the kids have gone since we moved here. None of that matters except it means LONG bus rides for the kids...they are bused to the neighborhood school and then shuttled to their school. By Friday things seemed to be moving along much better, but they still have long bus time so we may end up being car riders several days a week.

Millie and Zane are both in split classes this year. Millie is in a 1st/2nd split and Zane is in a 2nd/3rd. We are interested to see how this turns out! It is possible that they will end up together for certain subjects and I wonder how that would be? Quinn and Clara are going to stay at Hoosier Academy for another year, and their start date isn't until September 7! (that's more like it, in my opinion). They have gotten a little head start on a couple of subjects, but are mostly just enjoying the quiet reading time and helping me out around the house.

Millie and I were waiting for Zane at the dentist Thursday morning when we saw a magazine article talking about special days in August. It had "National Lemonade Day" listed on August 20. What better way to celebrate a successful end of the first week of school than some fresh-squeezed lemonade? It was delicious...and the kitchen smelled great, too! Then we headed to the pool to swim, home for some yummy nachos and a family movie night (complete with ice cream and fresh peaches from the farmer's market). It was a great end to a hectic week. I'm hoping next week goes smoothly as we add my piano students into the insane mix of activities that are all starting up! There are more pictures from this week here.

  1. Love the cake! Sounds like you made the best of everything this week. We start the 7th and it still feels too soon. Ask me in a week! ;-)
